Tennessee tourism generated $24.2 billion in domestic and international travel spending last year, outpacing other states


According to data recently published by US Travel Association and Tourism Economics, tourism in Tennessee generated $24.2 billion last year in domestic and international travel spending. This is the largest visitor expenditure in the state’s history.

Travelers visiting Tennessee spend approximately $66 million per day, $1.9 billion of which is generated in state and local tax revenue.

Tourism in Tennessee

The tourism industry is the third largest employer of Tennessee residents.

“Tourism drives economic development and job creation so that every Tennessean can prosper,” Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said.

Governor Lee goes on to say, “Our decision to prioritize a strong recovery has resulted in record levels of tourism growth, and we continue to welcome visitors to see all that Tennessee has to offer, from the Mississippi River in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Commissioner Mark Ezell of the Tennessee Department of Tourism Development said, “Tennessee is one of the world’s premier travel destinations because of our tremendous assets, including our unparalleled scenic beauty, diverse cities and small towns, and than our world-class attractions. , music, cultural and historical sites. We are so grateful to this industry and our blessed partners and visitors who come to experience these destinations and support local businesses, local restaurants, and local lodging and support communities.
